The investigation on rooting behaviour of soft-wood cuttings of guava varieties namely, baruipur, Sardar and Harijba in two different seasons (spring and rain) treated with various growth regulators showed thatirrespective of varieties and reasons all the three growth regulators (IBA, NAA and IAA) at three different concentrations (1,500; 2,500 and 3,500 ppm) significantly increased rooting of cuttings, number of primary roots and dry weight of roots per cutting over control. IBA was most effective in this respect followed by IAA and NAA. Among differentconcentrations IBA at 250o ppm exhibited the best performanc. (73,3 to83,3% rooting success, 5,82 to 7,16 number of primary roots and 101,2 mg to 112,4 mg dry weight of roots) irrespective of varieties, whileat 3.500 ppm it had a declining effect on the different rooting parameters. NAA had almost the similar response. But the response of IAA to different rooting parameters increased with increase in concentration and attained the highest magnitude at 3,500 ppm irrespective of seasonand varieties. Rainy season was superior to spring in respect of rooting of cuttings. Among the different varieties Baruipur was most responsive to the treatments of different growth regulators followed by Sardar and Harijha. |
